Our Boutique Babies

Calving season is our favorite time of year on the farm. Starting our calves right is a huge part of what we do here & ensuring our mamas are friendly is the biggest factor for us so that they get started right. Each calf will receive daily human interaction, early socialization, and halter-training foundations to help them grow into friendly, confident, and well-handled little ones.

Focusing on Quality, Temperament,
& Size

When it comes to miniature cattle, there are three key factors we have poured ourselves into ensuring we can provide.

#1: Quality - we aren't just breeding for size, here at the Rafter 4 Ranch we strive to breed cattle that are not only small but better the breed in their health & stature.

#2: Temperament - we want to breed miniature cattle that are more than cute to look at, we are breeding your pasture pets & we want to ensure that their personalities reflect as such. In order to do this we breed good tempered cows & socialize our calves everyday.

#3: Size - in order to ensure we are providing the smallest of mini cows we retain the smallest of calves to generationally continue reducing their size. Plus we rely on more than just the chrondo gene to produce that small size, hand picking the naturally smallest to pair back to them.

Our Bottle Feeding Method

Keeping Calves Socialized yet Respectful

Some of our calves are required to be bottle fed thanks to our AI practices. It is not uncommon with bottle fed babies to see disrespectful behavior towards their humans. Our approach allows our calves to become familiar with being handled by people, without them directly correlating the bottle to us. We do this by haltering our calves & then using a bottle holder to give them their meals. In our experience this creates the friendliest cows that still respect your space.
